New York Mayoral Election Breakdown
New York City residents will finally have the chance to oust Mr. Outside-Corruptor General-Fake Vegan-Mayor Eric Adams! The primary on June 24th (early voting from June 14th-22nd) allows us to decide which candidate will be each party’s nominee for the general election. So, who’s running and what are their platforms? I’ll break it down with my own personal bias.
Are we over Black Excellence?
Did you see Kendrick Lamar’s Blackity Black Super Bowl performance at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans last night? Many are still dissecting the message sent by having Samuel L. Jackson playing “Uncle Sam,” the reason the stage was arranged like a Playstation game controller, and why Serena Williams was cripwalking like a G, while others have missed the point entirely.
It’s fitting that this performance comes during a racially tense Black History Month - that will be celebrated regardless of the federal government’s stance on it.
Are we over being triggered?
Whew! It seems that many of us have been on edge for years. With pandemics, genocides, global politics, and economic uncertainties we cannot look at social media without being bombarded with triggering content. We have access to so much information about world events that we are able to see a conflict from varying perspectives, which is a good thing. However, doom scrolling through IG or TikTok cannot be good for our mental health. So how can we stay sane while staying informed?
Are we over the bacchanal?
The dynamic duo is back at it. DysChick and SocaSaySo are excited to announce the release of our first episode in Season 7 of the BK Rant & Rave podcast! Our theme this season is "are we over it?" In episode one, we want to know if you are over the uncertainty of Trinidad's International Soca Monarch, bacchanal in soca music industry, and Machel Montano being the one carrying the torch for soca.
So, this is Christmas
Is it just me or does it not feel like Christmas this year? I walk through the streets of Brooklyn and, despite the unusual Christmas Eve snow on the ground, I’m not feeling the spirit of the season. I have some thoughts as to why this might be the case.
NYC 2024 Election Ballot Proposals
It’s that time of year again. That time when we all bad talk new soca releases, complain about the commercialization of Christmas, and assume we are too clever to vote. Well, this post is not meant to persuade you to give 2025 soca a chance or volunteer at a shelter if you’re so anti-capitalism. This post is also not meant to convince you to vote either Democrat or Republican, but to get you to understand the proposals that are on this year’s ballot so that you can’t complain when your NYC cost of living goes up and quality goes down.
Many of you may have received your voter guide and tossed it in the trash or put it aside to read later, so let me break down what proposals are on the NYC voting ballot and how they affect your day-to-day life.
The Question of the Essequibo
The Question of the Essequibo
On December 3rd, Venezuela will hold a referendum to decide whether to formally claim Essequibo, a region long disputed with Guyana, as a Venezuelan state. Should they decide to move forward with the claim, Guyana would lose over 70% of its territory, much of which has been the source of the nation’s newfound wealth.

Hello and Happy 2023!
I can’t believe how much happened in 2022. We came out of the COVID-19 pandemic, Mia Mottley secured a second 5-year term as Prime Minister of Barbados, Russia started a war with Ukraine, and Herschel Walker lost the Georgia election - but so did Stacey Abrams. You know, yin… yan. The same was true for DysChick. Despite personal tragedies, I was able to be outside like garb – nope. I refuse to make that a phrase.
So what’s my plan for 2023? Rest.
