Rant and Rave - 5 Steps to Get Your Non-Caribbean Friend Ready for Carnival

5 Steps to Get Your Non-Caribbean Friend Ready for Carnival

Rapper Nicki Minaj attended Trinidad Carnival 2020. Although this should have been a story of the rapper's return to her homeland, her husband, Kenneth Petty, ended up being the headline.  While trying to get Minaj's attention, soca artiste Iwer George reached over Petty and the American-born former convict shoved his hand away with an annoyed look.  The moment was captured on cellphone video and made it around the blogoshpere so we had to RANT about it.  We decided to give our listeners 5 steps to get non-Caribbean people familiar with the customs of Carnival. Then we RAVE to "Play Harder" by the King of Soca (who was also on the truck at the time of the Petty incident) Machel Montano.

Rant and Rave - No Thongs In Grenada Spicemas

NO THONGS IN GRENADA SPICEMAS

Whew chilay!  The Interwebs are upset about Grenada's costume rules issued to mas bands this year.  The rules include "no C strings" - whatever those are - and "no wire bra above a D-cup."  Well, Caribbean Twitter went off! Memes appeared showing old-fashioned bloomers with "Spicemas 2020" embroidered on the front. DysChick and SocaSaySo RANT about whether or not Grenada's rules will work for those accustomed to barely there costumes. Then we RAVE to the only fitting song for the topic, "Bacchanal Party" by Luni Spark and Electrify.
